Artistic Expressions and Styles is a workshop for anyone, beginner to intermediate, who is interested in developing their own personal style. Learn what defines a personal style and how you can use color, signature elements (themes and motifs), and various media to define a personal style that reflects you! Numerous exercises, prompts and examples will guide you on an artistic journey towards exploring how you as an artist can develop a unique visual voice.

Week 1: Introducing Artistic Styles

  • What makes an "artistic style?" Discover various styles throughout history, view instructor examples and learn the building blocks of style in order to develop your own.

Week 2: Color Styles

  • Color Theory Refresher
  • How other artists develop a color style
  • Explore various color schemes
  • Discover how to develop your own color style

Week 3: Signature Elements: Themes & Motifs Within Your Style

  • Learn about themes motifs and signature elements, and how they define a style
  • Learn how others artists find and develop their own themes, motifs and signature elements
  • Discover and develop your own themes, motifs and signature elements

Week 4: Media: Rendering Your Style

  • Discover how various media techniques heavily influence your personal style! Examples of rendering will include colored pencils, watercolor, markers and acrylic. Discover which techniques best work for you.

  • Scrapbook papers
  • Sketch paper

  • Brushes (your favorite sizes, from small, medium and large)
  • Mat board or canvas (to paint on)
  • Novelty pens (glitter, souffle, metallic etc)
  • Inkng pens ( we recommend the Koh-I-Nor RapidoSketch pens)
  • Any white pen
